Game Log 2 - Play
Collage:
New game idea:
We came with a new idea which is slightly different from those described in Game log 1. We consider creating a fishing game. The player will try to collect many different objects. These could be parts of a painting. Then the task would be to put these parts together to create a painting. Once the painting would be finished, as an award a story about the painting would appear. (Or alternatively it could be any text, f. e. about EU value which is somehow connected to the piece of art.)
What are we fishing:
- no fish
- scraps of paintings
- cassette player and cassettes to listen to old music (maybe vinyls or cds also)
- TV so you can watch old dance or theater plays
- scraps of text (to fill-in-the-blank)
- a part of a painting that is missing, and then having to put that part in the right spot
- food
Places to fish:
- bodies of water
- in the clouds
- in the woods
- in a well
- in places that are on the paintings
Story:
through the artifacts and pages of the book and the limitless things we can fish, we can tell any story we want. It is also possible to tell a story about a man that is actually a fisherman but is not able to catch any fishes and is only fishing artifacts.
Brainstorming of ideas of how to include all the senses:
(We are not aiming to include this in our game. Might be ideas of future work, we probably won’t have enough time to implement it now.)
- Changing the background in the game scene so that it feels like we are inside of the painting. (Created a 3D world inspired by the painting.)
- Simulate the wind with a fan
- Smell of the sea/fish
- Real fishing line (with movement sensors) instead of a controller
- Create sounds that fit the atmospheres of the painting + fishing music + sounds for feedback
Presentation:
What do you want to achieve with your game and why is it important?
We want the player to interact with the art. By trying to solve the painting puzzle, they need to explore details that they might not notice in a museum.
The players will learn something new about the author, art style, life in a certain time period, traditions, habits, text, song,...
What is the game’s heart, core concept or look & feel?

Feedback from experts:
In general the feedback was very positive. Some people expressed worries about the game being too complex and too ambitious. We were advised to start by just fishing one painting and if we have enough time, make the puzzle more complicated and fish for more than just 1 artefact. They really liked the idea of a fishing game and the way that EU values and cultural heritage were represented in our game. The fishing could be gamified (having to press a button multiple times).
